We need women

From The Atlantic:

“that doesn’t mean bisexual female TV characters have had it any easier. Bisexual women may be portrayed more often, but their sexual preferences have been frequently portrayed merely as an aphrodisiac for men or an extra hurdle for the men pursuing them. Female bisexuality also often goes unrealized beyond a single onscreen kiss between women; in other words, bisexual women are frequently seen only in fleeting encounters, rather than meaningful relationships, with other women.”

Just had a conversation today with my husband about this. It disturbs me so much, it really does. This statement is so damn true. It has everything to do with sexism and a total ignorance of female sexuality and sexuality in general. I haven’t read any articles, etc to this effect, but I truly believe in my heart that feminism and the LGBT movement are connected somehow. Not entirely sure on how yet, but they most definitely are. They are both awakenings… In ancient cultures, and even some modern ones, the subject of sexuality was almost always represented by a goddess. Feminism rises, so does sexual exploration? Maybe that’s the connection. I think it’s more than that, though, I’ll have to do some research.

But seriously, we need so many more true to life examples of sexual and romantic relationships between women. We desperately need it. For so many reasons.
